The Diploma is a one year full-time programme which is recognised by universities as an alternative to A levels for entry to many degree courses.
The Diploma is divided into units grouped into subject areas for each of which you can gain credits. Interviews are held after January up to the start of the course which is usually in September.

All units are class based and learning is facilitated by formal lectures, practical group work and ICT interaction. The subjects are relevant for those wishing to undertake degrees in Social work or Social Science such as Sociology, Criminology or Psychology.

These are complemented with timetabled Study Skills and Tutorial support.
More details on combinations and unit content can be discussed at the interview stage. You will develop the academic skills, knowledge and understanding to enable you to progress into Higher Education. Past Access students have gone onto successfully study Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Politics, plus a range of other university courses. This course will be delivered at our Horsforth Campus. You must be 19 years of age by 1st September in the year the course starts.
It is essential that you will have attained GCSE grade C or above in English, Maths and Science (if specifically required for your choice) prior to entry on the Access Diploma as these subjects are often required for degree level courses. If necessary, you may be able to study one GCSE or a Level 2 qualification alongside your diploma. If you are aged 19 or over and considering enrolling on a further education course at Level 3 or above, you may be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan to help with course fees.
