The Access Diploma to HE Social Welfare / Social Work course is a successful programme that prepares mature students, or students who wish to change career, for higher education either vocational or academic.
The course is mainly academically based with study skills units embedded, preparing students for higher education. Units studied in the course are listed below:

About this course
Possible progression is HE courses.
The course gives students the academic requirements to progress to university to study social work, social policy, youth work, criminology, psychology, teacher training and many other undergraduate degree programmes.
Students have been known to progress within current employment after completing the course and some students have gained employment in the field of health care assistant / support worker, youth work or teaching assistant.
With the demands of this Level 3 programme and the need to achieve, students must complete the Learning for Progression 12 week Level 2 course (previously called the Pre-Access).
Students need to be reliable, honest and trustworthy, have a positive attitude, be committed, enthusiastic and self motivated for study. It is advisable that students are able to word process, use email and have access to broadband. Students are expected to fully utilise e-books and Moodle 2 as part of the course. Students should be mature with clear evidence of life experiences.

Course programme
The course is delivered through taught lessons, lectures, guest speakers, clinical demonstrations / observations as well as informal discussions and question and answer sessions.
The course is assessed through the submission of essays, reports, and portfolios of work. Students will also be assessed through presentations and timed assessments within the classroom.
Alongside the Access Diploma students applying for the social work degree have to provide (210 hour) evidence of practical experience through either paid work or volunteering.
