While studying the course students will examine some works of English literature and analyse the styles and techniques used by the authors.

About this course

To provide students with a deeper understanding into English Literature and the techniques used by famous authors.

This course is aimed at individuals who didn't finish secondary education or didn't achieve the grades they wanted to.

All students must be 16 years of age or above. Basic English reading and writing skills, as full tutor support is given.

This is a GCSE level qualification without the requirement for final exams. The course is entirely based on coursework submissions. You can enrol at anytime.

Unit 1: Specific Texts Module 1: Understanding Drama Texts An Inspector Calls by J B PriestleyThe understanding of all the following will be demonstrated at the end of the unit assessment:• Background and socio-historical context • Plot• Characters• Themes• Stagecraft and setting • Language and symbolism Module 2: Understanding Prose Texts Of Mice and Men by John SteinbeckThe understanding of all the following will be demonstrated at the end of the unit assessment:• Background and socio-historical context • Plot• Characterisation• Themes• Language and symbolism Unit 2: Unseen Poetry and Prose Module 3: Unseen Poetry This module will be developing analytical skills rather than require the student to remember the features of the texts presented. This module includes a range of texts from different times and cultures. A range of poetic forms has also been included. The unseen poem can be from any time, culture or poetic form. This module will help the student develop their skills in reading and analysing poetry texts. Once the student understands the overall meaning and message of each text, they will practise selecting specific points for a response and identifying supporting quotations from the unseen text.
Module 4: Unseen Prose This module will be developing analytical skills rather than require the student to remember the features of the texts presented. This module includes a range of texts from different times and cultures. A range of short story genres has also been included. The unseen extract or story can be from any time, culture or genre.In this module, the student will be given a passage from a novel or literary non-fiction, or a complete short story. The student may be asked to explore how the writer presents a theme or character, or how that moment is made significant or moving for the reader along with other aspects.
