2. Course description Would you like to paint portraits? This course for Beginners & Improvers and will equip you with the techniques and knowledge to help you to develop your confidence and skill in painting Portraits with Acrylics. You will learn the basics of Portrait Painting through a series of explorative exercises and we will cover the formal elements of Art to develop an understanding of the use of line, shape, form, colour, tone and texture when portrait painting. There will be an element of drawing to help ensure that sketched outlines are accurate in shape and proportion in preparation for painting. We will also cover colour mixing and the importance of the use of tone and texture when painting. In addition to this we will take inspiration from a number of recognised portrait artists and their different painting styles. Sessions will be taught through demonstrations, class discussion and one to one support. The aim of the course is to develop your confidence in painting portraits whilst having fun unleashing your creativity!

3. Entry requirements This course is designed for Beginners and Improvers. If you have never painted before or are just nervous about your ability, you do not need to worry as you will be guided through each step, if you have some experience you will be taught further techniques and compositional devices.We welcome learners with additional needs and disabilities. Please let staff know if you require any extra support when you enrol and they will arrange for a member of the Supported Learning Team to contact you to discuss your support needs. Equipment required 1) A3 Sketch pad suitable for acrylic painting.2) A set of acrylic paints. This could be a starter pack that includes primary colours, white andblack.3) A set of brushes suitable for acrylic paint. This could be a starter pack that includes both round and flat brushes in various sizes.4) Flat palette or old plate (preferably white).5) Water pot/cup.6) Kitchen towel sheets.7) 2B pencil, sharpener and putty rubber/soft eraser. Other materials needed during the course will be discussed in advance of the lesson where those materials are needed. 5. Assessment method Not available
