Acrylics Level 1

Course Aims:
To introduce students to the methods and techniques of working with Acrylics, developing their skills and building an appropriate portfolio of work.

Course Content:
Introduction to the course.
Historical context.
Introduction to materials - Acrylics, papers.
Introduction to Techniques - Application of media.
Course projects to include;
Still life, portraiture, landscape, abstract elements and student led projects. Students will be expected to experiment with the media.
As the course progresses students will develop their portfolio skills including mounting, presentation and display of work. Students will also be required to keep a sketchbook and a personal record of their development throughout the course.

Progression:
If you wish to explore Drawing further, Southport College offers a range of both part-time and full-time progression routes including NCFE, First Diploma in Art & Design Post 19 and a BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies (Art and Design)

Exam:
Assessment is informal and ongoing. Students will produce a portfolio of work showing completion/evidence of three mandatory units which are assessed by the tutors and verified by an external NCFE moderator. As an integral part of the course all students will be expected to complete a workbook evidencing competence in the assessment criteria.

Qualification:
NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Creative Craft (Acrylic Painting)

A materials list will be provided at the first session - students will be expected to have a sketchbook and a selection ofAcrylics and pencils.

2 hours a week for 30 weeks
