This Foundation Degree, taught in partnership with Plymouth University here at the new Bay Studios, is designed to offer professional training for today’s performer. The course is highly practical containing strong elements of academic contextual study. You will be part of a performance company and you will be challenged and inspired in a variety of different ways from TV location shooting to forming and touring your own productions. Our industry-trained professionals include actors, technicians, designers, television professionals and voice and musical theatre specialists. You will be eligible to join the Actors’ Union Equity through this course.

Course programme

Applicants should normally be at least 18 years of age. Applications are invited from a wide range of backgrounds including mature students and the more recent A Level/BTEC National Extended Diploma in Performing Arts or AVCE in Performing Arts. All applicants meeting the criteria will be interviewed and auditioned prior to being given an offer. Applicants must have a minimum of 120 UCAS tariff points typically from: • A combination of A Levels, preferably one in a related subject at minimum grade D • BTEC Subsidiary Diploma Distinction in a related subject • BTEC 120 credit Diploma Merit Pass in a related subject • BTEC Extended Diploma Pass in a related subject • Access to HE Diploma (45 credits at Level 3, 15 at Level 2). Applicants must also have a minimum Grade C in GCSE English or a Level 2 equivalent. Mature applicants will be considered on individual merit according to prior experience or qualifications. Course Content Year 1 (Level 4) • Performance workshop 1, 2 and 3 • Actor training for film and television • The production team • Industry practice 1. Year 2 (Level 5) • Professional practice • Performance workshop 4 • Industry practice 2 • Production project 1 and 2. Work-based learning You are required to complete 30 days’ work experience within a professional environment of your choice. This is flexible in approach and can include existing relevant paid or voluntary work. Module Descriptor Handbook How will I be assessed? Assessment for this course is entirely through coursework which includes written assignments and practical work. There are no examinations. Progression Those who successfully complete the Foundation Degree in Actor Training for Theatre and Media Performance will be invited to attend the Plymouth University graduation ceremony held in September. Successful students may decide to apply for a top-up further year at Plymouth University to study an Honours Degree in Theatre and Performance. Progression onto other top-up courses at a variety of institutions is an option for those who wish to apply to study elsewhere Fees The course fees for all students for this course will be £6000 per annum for 2016/17. Whilst you are a student on our Foundation degree programme you will receive a season ticket which enables you to access a range of public professional theatre performances scheduled in the Bay Theatre (on the College campus) during term time for free! We believe seeing this work is an integral part of your development as an artist and is an essential element of your study. Non-attendance at an event without extenuating circumstances and subsequent prior consent from your tutor will incur a charge equivalent to the price of purchasing a concessionary ticket for that event. *Note – All costs may be subject to change and may vary dependent on place of purchase.
