Adobe InDesign: An Introduction Short Course

You will learn how to use the various tool functions; how to set up documents using a variety of page formats; the basic principles of typography and the significance of working with grids and layers to use type and imagery to maximum effect.

You will gain an understanding of the skills necessary to create magazine, book and poster layouts and the ability to save your work to appropriate formats.

As this is an introductory course it will be carefully paced to account for the challenge of learning new software. There will be ample time for you to discover, practise, and absorb the array of approaches that the application offers.

The emphasis will be on creating a space in which your skills, knowledge, and confidence at using InDesign will flourish. Each session will involve you working on a series of exercises that will build upon your understanding of the application's capabilities, and provide possibilities for evolving your thoughts and skills.

Once you are comfortable with the basics you will be given a project to work on which will be useful for flagging up any technical problems you encounter and also pose new challenges for you to overcome. The course will use Apple Macintosh computers, there will be a built-in overview of the operating system for those unfamiliar with the way they work.
