Course programme

Course units

The course is made up of 4 units, each will require approximately 5 hours of study.

Unit content is guided by professionally recognised theory and evidence:

Unit 1 - Frameworks for Online Learning

The unit considers the definition and pedagogy that sits behind online learning and look at the difference between e-learning and online learning. The unit covers e-learning design, the creation of teaching content and learning design, and looks at how this content is absorbed in a virtual classroom.

Unit 2 - Assessment and Online Learning

In this unit, we look at how to plan and design meaningful online assessments, including the creation of assessments for different levels of knowledge and skills testing whilst building in all aspects of online learning to deliver well structured, meaningful and engaging content.

Unit 3 - Designing Online Learning

This unit focuses on what e-learning content looks like and explores the tools and techniques that can be employed to create engaging and meaningful content. Building on what is covered in Units 1 and 2, we will also start to form a learning package.

Unit 4 - Online Learning Communities

This unit looks at online communities such as discussion forums, blogs, wikis and other forms of collaborative tools. We will evaluate how they function, the way they’re organised, the way in which individuals communicate whilst considering the positives and negatives of these platforms. Hints and tips will also be provided on how to manage these forms of collaborative platforms.
