This course is for anyone who is employed in the animal care industry but who does not yet have a formal qualification at Level 3. You can start the Apprenticeship at any point in the year. We currently have two pathways, animal care and dog grooming.If you have a passion for animal care or dog grooming then this is an excellent way to pursue a career in it. The skills and qualifications you will gain will help future career prospects as well as building confidence working with a range of animals. You will be working with animals such as rabbits, reptiles, primates and hoof stock and ensuring their health and welfare needs are met.

About this course

You should have four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and maths or a relevant Level 2 qualification and be employed in the animal care industry.Mature students will be considered on their experience and skill, regardless of their qualifications.

Course programme

What will I study on the course?

You will study a range of units including:

Implement, monitor and evaluate plans for the health and welfare of animals

Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security of the workplace

Plan the handling and restraint of animals

Plan, supervise and control the movement of animals

Plan the accommodation of animals

Monitor and evaluate the accommodation of animals

Recognise and interpret the behaviour of animals

Work with others to improve customer service

Improve the customer relationship

You will gain valuable practical skills by working with a range of animals as well as improving theoretical knowledge in animal care.

Additional information

You will attend college one day per week and go out into employment 4 days per week. The course will last between 12 and 18 months and can start at any time of the year to suit you and your employer.
