This is a three year Engineering Apprenticeship Programme for employed people aged 16+ who have recently started or are about to start working in an engineering environment and aim to achieve a recognised sector skills qualification. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group.

ADVANCED APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK:

This framework is made up of the following components. In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.

Initial Engineering Training - this part of the Apprenticeship is carried out in a training centre or college, it is very practical and is an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Performing Engineering Operations. You will need to complete 3 units for this part of the programme. There is a variable skills pathway available.

Main NVQ/developmental stage training - the qualification is made up of units, usually 3 mandatory units and a choice of pathway units at Level 3.

Technical Diploma - Level 3
• Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
• Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering & Technology (Machining)
• EAL Level 3 Progressive Diploma in Engineering & Technology (Maintenance)

Functional Skills - Engineering frameworks include 3 Functional Skills at Level 2:
• Mathematics
• English
• ICT

Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)

You will require: overalls, safety boots, ring binder/subject dividers, pens, drawing instruments, Zeus book and a scientific calculator.

Course programme

Progression to higher level qualifications in engineering such as HNC, HND, degree or more specialist training programmes in your chosen field of expertise, or a higher level apprenticeship framework.

All applicants wishing to enrol will need to meet with a member of staff beforehand, and must be employed by a company willing to support them. You will need to be aged 16 years or older to be eligible for an Apprenticeship. You will also need a good general education and a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 9 - 4 (A* - C) in Maths, English, Science and one other relevant subject to your chosen pathway.

Assessment on all Apprenticeship programmes is by continuous assessment method for the NVQ parts of the framework. The Technical Diploma and Functional Skills will have examined units that will be tested. Portfolio evidence will be a major part of the assessment procedure. You will be assigned an assessor by the college to help monitor and review your training progress.
