About this course

If you have sufficient industry experience you may not need any formal qualifications, however progression to Level 3 would normally be following completion of a Level 2 or equivalent work-based qualification or apprenticeship.

What will I study on the course?

An Advanced Apprenticeship is a framework of qualifications which includes the following:

- Employer Rights and Responsibilities workbook

- Functional skills in Maths and English (or GCSE Equivalent)

- Business Management Unit

- Work based Diploma in Horse Care and Management at Level 3

- Personal Learning and Thinking skills Level 3

There work Based Diploma offers a variety of options depending on your industry specialism, these include:

- L3 work Based Diploma in Horse Care with Management

- L3 Work Based Diploma in Horse Care with Riding

- L3 Work Based Diploma in Horse Care with Breeding

- L3 Work Based diploma in Horse Care with Coaching

The Qualification consist of 7 Mandatory units which include:

- Receive a horse and carry out an initial assessment

- Plan diets and implement feeding regimes for horses

- Monitor and maintain stocks of feed and bedding

- Promote the health and well-being of horses

- Deliver basic health care to horses

- Health and safety in the workplace

- Professional development

There are a wide range of optional units which can be chosen to enhance your employability, develop a range of skills or give you a qualification in your chosen sphere. These include modules such as:

- Prepare horses for public appearance

- Clipping

- Equestrian Teaching

- Stud Management

- Horse Rehabilitation

- Care of the performance horse

- Grassland Management

Additional information

The Advanced Apprenticeship is work based. Much of your learning will take place in industry. You will be required to attend college 2-4 days per month by arrangement with each individual employer and student.
