Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services L3

Apprenticeships are ideal for younger people starting out on a new career, an adult looking to make a career change, or an employee who would like to develop their skills and knowledge to gain a promotion.

Apprenticeships are flexible and are designed to offer a structured programme of learning to fit around the needs of the individual and the employer.

Learning takes place mainly during employment at a traditional legal firm, as part of a business or working within local government through the development of ‘on the job’ skills. However there is an 'off the job' training element which takes place away from at college. This off-the-job training is usually done on day release. Both the on and off the job elements of the apprenticeship lead to nationally-recognised qualifications which are awarded by CILEx, in addition to developing transferable skills in English, Maths and ICT and personal, learning and thinking skills.

Prior learning of law, perhaps at A level, is beneficial but not compulsory.

A work placement is required for the course which Highbury’s apprenticeship team can assist you with.
Level 3 Diploma in Providing Legal Services and Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice (covered within chosen pathway) with CILEx.
Please note - to be fully qualified at level 3 additional units will need to be taken after apprenticeship.
The programme includes two components to show an apprentices knowledge and competence.

Competence is assessed via a range of units where students gather evidence in the workplace, complete written work and are assessed in their workplace observations. This enables students demonstrate a range of skills including working in a team, managing their own workload, communicating effectively, managing legal files and drafting legal documents.

Knowledge is assessed via two controlled assessments in client care skills and legal research.

Students without A level law must complete a multiple choice Introduction to Law and Practice exam covering basic legal concept and principles.

Additionally, students will complete two exams relating to their pathway. One will focus on the main law in their area and the other will be a practice exam where students will show how the law is applied in their area.
