Advanced Apprenticeship in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (Level 3)

As from 14 October 2016, learners who have achieved a qualification recognised as an alternative to Essential Skills, as detailed under the apprenticeship framework, are not required to undertake Essential Skills qualification. However, if a learner’s WEST assessment identifies that the learner has essential skills deficits which would inhibit progress through the framework, this needs to be addressed.
Learners will study a range of Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools related units which will enhance their understanding of working in this sector. Each unit is made up of credits, at Level 3 learners require:

Understand how to Safeguard the Welfare of Children and Young People
Communication and Relationships
Schools as Organisations
Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
Supporting Learning Activities
Promote Positive Behaviour
Develop Professional Relationships
Promote Equality Diversity and Inclusion
Support assessment for Learning
Engage in Personal Development
There are also a diverse range of optional units from which units that will provide a total of 12 credits are selected to reflect the learner’s work placement and current practice. These include:
Plan and Deliver Learning Activities
Support Play
Support Numeracy Development
Support Special Education Needs
This one year programme leading to a nationally recognised qualification. It enables you to further develop the knowledge, skills, and understanding required of those working in this sector. This course provides the opportunity to continue to develop your level of occupational competence for working in Schools. You will undertake this qualification as an employed member of staff in the schools sector. You will need to be working with children of compulsory school age.
