As a Learning ...Some students have embarked on behaviour management courses, allowing them to build on skills required to effectively carry out their roles as Behaviour Support Assistants or Co-ordinators. Others have combined their day job with a Foundation Degree in Support Teaching and Learning.

Course programme



Course Overview

This Apprenticeship will train you to effectively support teachers in the classroom. As a Learning Support Assistant or Teaching Assistant, you will work in a classroom with small groups or individuals and work with teachers to carry out tasks such as preparing lessons.

This course is ideal if you are patient, communicate well and enjoy working with young people.

Some of the topics covered include:

  • Promoting positive behaviour in children and young people
  • Developing professional relationships
  • Supporting assessment for learning
  • Understanding how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people

Lectures, research, discussions in small groups and support from teaching assistants are all part of the learning experience on this Apprenticeship. You will have access to the College excellent facilities including our virtual learning environment (Moodle) and well-equipped library and learning resource centre where there are plenty of computers for independent study.

Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE.
