About this course

You should have a relevant Level 2 Qualification and be employed in the industry.You should also have two GCSEs at grade D in English and maths or a relevant Level 1 qualification and have an interest in bricklaying. Following a successful interview and initial assessment, you will be allocated a place to study the practical and theoretical elements of bricklaying. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the interview but not the initial assessment

Course programme

What will I study on the course?

You will study building methods and construction technology, carrying out structural and decorative brickwork and learn how to repair and maintain masonry structures. Ideal if you are employed as a bricklayer and wish to progress from Level 2. You will also study and display Carrying out Health and Safety in the workplace, Material Science, Advanced Craft Skills, Environmental Issues, Managerial Studies and Architectural Design. These will all be delivered and carried out in Practical and theoretical tests throughout the programme of study.

As well as improving your practical abilities, you will develop your skills in maths and English, which will support your main programme of study, enhance your life skills and help with your future career progression.

Additional information

You will attend college one day per week for one year, you will spend the remaining time working for your employer. You will develop a flexible learning plan that meets the needs of you and your employer. You will develop the skills and knowledge to become a competent bricklayer through a series of comprehensive practical training and workshop activities. You can start your Apprenticeship at any time in the year.
