Course Summary:
Our Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf Learners offers you a part-time qualification route to working with deaf learners in the FE and Skills sector.
You will attend College one Saturday per month for 12 months and you will need access to 40 hours or more work-placement hours during the course. This qualification is especially suitable for those who wish to become a qualified Communication Support Worker or Learning Assistant with deaf learners.
You will study eight modules at Level 3, which provide an excellent toolkit for preparing and providing support, and the course develops your skills in reflecting on, and developing, your work. You will be observed over the year by your tutor and will be involved in personal and professional action planning.

Course Content: Preparing to support learning Learning support in lifelong learning contexts: communication support for deaf learners Principles of learning support: communication support for deaf learners Supporting learning: communication support for deaf learners Reflective journal Supporting bi-lingual access Clear speech and notetaking Accessible English for deaf and deafblind people How will I be assessed? There is a variety of written academic assignments along with a presentation and role play to complete, as well as a short exam. In addition you will have observations over the one-year period, which you will plan for and evaluate. All assignments, observations, planning, reflections and the role play will be graded against the Exam Board’s learning outcomes and specifications. You must pass all elements to be able to gain the full qualification. You will enter all documentation into a portfolio to be submitted for marking and external verification at the end of the course. What can I do after this course? ·Gain employment as a communication support worker or learning assistant with deaf learners ·Progress to a degree in Communication Support Work or Deaf Studies ·Consider further training in associated subjects such as note-taking, lipspeaking, interpreting, and/or language modification IMPORTANT: our courses require a minimum of 14 enrolments to run.
