Course programme
This course will develop your knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with acute medical issues requiring inpatient support. Key indicative content areas include:
- The holistic care and management of medical patients within the Emergency Department and Acute Medical environment who are suffering from a range of biochemical and physiological disorders.
- Critical analysis of the medical emergency pathway for the patient, family and carers.
- Multi-disciplinary team working and its effects upon patient experiences. The role of the medical nurse in ethical decision making.
- Analysis and exploration of technical skills within medical emergency pathway.
- Exploration of the differing roles related to rehabilitative activities within the multidisciplinary team.
- Exploration of political influences impacting upon patient care
The course draws on a range of sources, identifying appropriate nursing and therapeutic interventions and best practice. Decision making will be critically analysed in relation to the management of the patient’s care including evidence based practice and protocols.
