Course programme

WHAT YOU'LL STUDY

This course is an accredited MA-level short course worth 15 credits. You can study it flexibly as a standalone short course or combine it with specialised pathways to achieve named awards. It is linked to your professional requirement as a social worker to provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), as part of your continued registration with the Health and Care Professions Council, and within the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) of the College of Social Work.

Studying these courses offers you the opportunity to update your skills in practice interventions and deepen your knowledge base about current research and policy in contemporary practice.

You can also apply for accredited prior learning through UEL’s ACL system to progress towards achieving postgraduate awards.

HOW YOU'LL LEARN

The course begins with an induction session led by UEL Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer Mark Wheeler, followed by four one-day workshops between February and April.

As a student on the course, you will arrange five hour-long observations on separate occasions in a psychiatric ward. You will later explore these observations in reflective practice seminars - the core of your learning.

The structured learning series also involves a reading/theory seminar, and an input session on key themes in mental health.
