PhD
For many future aircraft systems the design and performance of the aero-engine nozzle has an impact on the overall system performance and is notably influenced by the airframe design. The proposed research will focus on the aerodynamic characteristics, performance and novel design of advanced aero-engine nozzles. The aim of the work is to improve the understanding of unconventional nozzle aerodynamics and to establish design and performance guidelines with consideration for integration with the airframe. The main work will be undertaken using a range of computational aerodynamic methods.

Entry requirements
Applicants should have a first or upper second class UK honours degree or equivalent in a related discipline, such as mathematics, or engineering. An aerospace background would be a distinct advantage as would experience of computational aerodynamics, aero-engine modelling and programming. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills for regular interaction with other stakeholders and with an interest for industrial research.
