The course will provide students with the core technical knowledge needed to design and program a dynamic web site for a client (eg a small business) To introduce students to the client based collection of technologies for producing dynamic web pages, including HTML, CSS, Javascript and the Document Object Model. To teach proficiency in the production of dynamic web pages using server side technologies including server based scripting languages (such as PHP, CGI, Perl etc and database systems such as MySQL. To use these technologies, scripting languages and other tools to implement a design.

Course programme

Your course build on existing competences in XHTML and CSS, students will acquire the core technical knowledge and advanced skills needed to design and program a dynamic web site for a client organisation (e.g. a small business). Students will be expected to acquire and demonstrate a confident proficiency in one or more of the following: Javascript, PHP, , MySQL, and XML.
Learning outcomes:
Compare and evaluate static and dynamic page delivery
Use Tools for website production (for example, Notepad ++ / FireBug / XAMPP) with measurable proficiency

Identify the advantages and disadvantages of Server Side and Client Side programming, and be able to judiciously select an appropriate solution
Script and implement back-office programs and routines (for example, PHP, or Javascript) for dynamic web sites
Identify browser compatibility issues that affect markup, scripting, and Server Side and CSS programming.
Describe, compare and contrast a number of design solutions for a client including different technical, creative and information systems options
Produce web documents to a reasonable standard of professionalism Design and implement a simple dynamic web site.
Assessment is by coursework, in which each student will create, publish, and manage a web site for a real or imaginary client.
