Course programme

This aesthetic therapist course has been developed in collaboration with The Harley Street Skin Clinic with the aim of developing knowledgeable Aesthetic Therapists ready to meet the growing demand from the industry nationwide. This partnership ensures the course content is tailored towards the aesthetic industry's requirements, whilst offering you the opportunity to visit clinics or theatres and see first hand the doctors at work.

Throughout the course industry experts will give workshops on topics such as radio frequency, micro-needling, dermabrasion, IPL, chemical peels, cosmetic science and cryolipolysis. (Please see course information pack for details.)

The course will include the equivalent of one full day working in all areas of a skin clinic, including shadowing nurses, receptionists, consultants and other aestheticians. There will also be a second day observing invasive treatments.

Course Outcomes:

The course aims to produce aesthetic practitioners with advanced treatment skills based on strong understanding of the underlying science, together with consultation and communication skills specific to the aesthetic industry.

This course is aimed at practising beauty therapists who wish to make the transition to aesthetic therapist. Upon completion of the programme, you could be an ideal candidate to fill one of the many aesthetic therapist vacancies.

Course structure:

The programme fully prepares you for the medical aesthetics industry by combining essential knowledge of human anatomy, physiology and skin biology with explanations of the latest treatments and procedures used in the industry today.

Aesthetic Therapist is a part-time course run over 12 weeks.

The course includes:

  • Cell structure, skin, tissues, skeletons
  • Physiology
  • Assisting a physician
  • Lymphatic System
  • Allergies
  • Client handling
  • Fat distribution, cellulite and obesity
  • Health, hygiene and sterile conditions
  • Hormones, menopause, pregnancy
  • Anatomy
  • The skin: ageing, skin analysis, sun and skin care, skin disorders
  • Minimally invasive procedures
  • Clinic visit
  • IPL attaining a ‘Core of Knowledge
  • Cosmetic Science
  • Radio frequency, stem cells and other new technologies
  • Examination

This course does not instruct or licence you to perform injectable treatments but gives you the opportunity to explore the theory and safety practices associated with injectable treatments such as botulinum toxin (Botox®) and dermal fillers, and how to safely assist a doctor in performing injectable aesthetic procedures.


Assessment & certificate:

Assessments will be completed at the end of the course which includes a final examination. On completion of the course you will be awarded a grade based on the results of both assessments, and a Certificate of Achievement by London College of Fashion.

Aesthetic Therapist is a CIBTAC Endorsed Training Course. All students will receive a complimentary CIBTAC badge and have the option to purchase a CIBTAC certificate.

Accredited by Cosmetic Insure.

The Aesthetic Therapist course Accreditation by Cosmetic Insure will allow the AT students, once qualified, access to aesthetic specific individual or clinic insurance.

Cosmetic Insure members receive access to a range of free guidance covering topics such as risk management advice, handling complaints as well as receive discounts and offers on selected training courses.

Eligibility:

Aimed at beauty therapists qualified to NVQ Level 3 in beauty therapy or equivalent, plus a GCSE pass at Grade C or above in a science subject. Any experience with aesthetic or cosmetic treatments is advantageous. The course is delivered in English. If your first language is not English should have an English language score equivalent to I.E.L.T.S 6.0 or above. We will require your CV and one reference (academic or job reference) plus proof of your qualifications.
