Course programme

The REACH group offers research training in ageing and cognitive health, with a focus on our core themes: Promoting well-being Preventing, reducing or delaying the onset of age-related disability Rehabilitation and care Postgraduate study in Psychology Contact: Professor Linda Clare The REACH team in Psychology offers outstanding research training in clinical psychology and neuropsychology with a focus on psychosocial aspects of ageing, prevention of age-related cognitive disability, dementia and neurodegenerative conditions, and caregiving. Professor Clare welcomes inquiries from potential PhD students. Recent PhD studentships have encompassed topics such as self and identity, awareness, executive function and everyday activities, associative memory, and caregiving relationships. Students are encouraged to write up their thesis in the form of a series of linked journal articles and to submit these for publication in the course of their PhD studies. Postgraduate study in Social Sciences Contact: Professor Ian Rees Jones REACH in Social Science offers outstanding research training in Social Science with a focus on Health and Social Policy. Postgraduate study in Sports, Health and Exercise Sciences Contact: Dr Jeanette Thom The REACH team in Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences offers research training in exercise physiology with a focus on the musculoskeletal aspects of ageing, whether linked to healthy ageing per se or with dementia and neurodegenerative conditions. Ageing research within Sport, Health and Exercise Sciences can also be linked within the research groups investigating hydration and immune function, health and exercise rehabilitation in healthy older and clinical groups and exercise psychology (e.g. motivation to exercise). Recent postgraduate studentships have encompassed topics such as enhancing provision of physical activity programmes for older people, with several PhD studentships related to exercise in rheumatoid arthritis covering joint, cardiovascular and muscular health.
