The focus on countries growing more of their own food has intensified over the past decade. Not only does growing our own food reduce our carbon footprint, it reduces unemployment and results in fresher, better tasting meals. Working in agriculture is incredibly fulfilling, as it plays such an important part in meeting the needs of society.What will I learn?This programme provides knowledge about the science of agriculture needed for the upcoming decades and the longer term future, combined with practical experience of both crop and livestock husbandry. You will gain an in-depth knowledge of agriculture. This will include the science behind crops, livestock and molecular farming. You will also develop expertise in modern machinery including precision technologies. You will gain the confidence to work in farm situations, within a wide range of crops and livestock enterprises and make informed decisions for profitable and sustainable outcomes. This degree programme is hands-on with a practical emphasis. As well as gaining data presentation and report writing ability, students will also have the opportunity to develop investigative, observational, research and communication skills. You will also learn about management in farming - from arable to livestock.Why choose this course?Extensive use will be made of the farm's resources at our partner institution Hadlow College the Kent countryside, near Tonbridge which currently comprise a 120 cow, award-winning dairy herd, a 500 ewe commercial sheep flock, beef, pig and poultry units and approximately 180 ha of farmed land including grassland, maize and arable. There is access to a further 400 ha of arable land and forestry on a neighbouring farm for teaching purposes. 96 UCAS points from A levels (preferably to include a science subject) or relevant vocational BTEC Level 3 qualification Candidates also require GCSE at C or above in Maths, English and Science Applications from mature students without standard entry qualification will also be welcomed.

Assessment A range of teaching methods will be used to deliver this programme. Sessions will be made up of traditional lectures, seminars, tutorials, practicals, visits and research on live trials and desk top research.A range of assessment methods will be employed as students will complete coursework, research projects, practical assessments, presentations and examinations. Careers Graduates can engage with agriculture industries in the UK and Europe and use their intellect and skills to work effectively with all stakeholders throughout the food chain. These industries are currently in need of graduates and the current shortages mean that students with the critical skills gained from this degree are able to develop successful management careers across production, advisory, post-harvest, processing and retail sectors. Specialised equipment Extensive use will be made of the College Farm's resources, which currently comprise a 120 cow award-winning dairy herd, a 500 ewe commercial sheep flock, beef, pig and poultry units and approximately 180 ha of farmed land including grassland, maize and arable.
