Our Level One Diploma in Agriculture and Environment is the ideal course if you are keen to learn more about Agriculture and the Countryside. 

The Level One course is designed to help you become more confident in your learning. As well as improving your skills with livestock, equipment and estate maintenance you will spend time improving your English and Maths too. To help prepare you for further study or work, you will also develop your skills of working in a group and meeting deadlines.

What modules are covered?

Safe and Effective Working Practices 


In this unit students will learn the importance of wearing personal protective equipment, how to maintain a safe working environment and who to report any accidents or injuries to.

Develop Performance in Landbased Industries

This unit teaches students how to work as a team and helps develop their personal performance.

Industrial Experience in Landbased Industries

Students will learn how to follow simple instructions to complete a task and carry out routine activities under supervision.

Use, Transport and Assist with Maintenance of Tools and Equipment

Students will be taught how to use, maintain and transport tools and equipment.

Assist with Maintaining Health and Well-being of Animals

Students will learn how to care for animals and treat them when they are unwell or in the event of an emergency.
 
Assist with the Repair and Maintenance of Structures in the Countryside

Learners will learn how to repair fencing and a gate or stile.

Carry out Tractor Operations

Students will be taught to prepare and operate tractors and trailers, compiling a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their achievements. It will include marking checklists, assignments, photographs and witness testimonies.

Introduction to Wildlife and Conservation

Students will learn how to recognise a range of habitats and recognise the links between plants and animals.

What qualifications will I get?

City & Guilds Level 1 Diploma in Landbased Studies - Argriculture or Environmental Conservation
Functional Skills

How will I be assessed?

There will be assignments and tests for all modules.  In addition, practicals will be assessed by observation and oral questions.  The assessment for Functional Skills will be an externally marked online examination.  There is a compulsory online test for the Safe and Effective Working Practices module.

What is the entry process?

After applying, you will be invited to an informal interview with a member of the department. They will assess your suitability and answer any questions you have about the course.

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Entry Level

Applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade E or above to include English, Maths and a Science.

What else do I need to know?

For students aged 16-18 years, the fee is £0.00 for the 2015-16 academic year. 

Students aged 19-23 years will be required to pay a total fee of £994.00 for the 2015-16 academic year. 

Students aged 24+ will be required to pay £TBA for the 2015-16 academic year.

English and Maths

English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.

Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.

Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.

What can I do after this course?

On successful completion of this course you may wish to seek employment in farming or continue with your study on a course such as the Level Two Diploma in Agriculture offered at Warwickshire College.

All students may be charged for materials e.g. equipment, clothing etc.
