Overview At a glance Budding horticulturists learn to identify plants and soil types, potting and pruning, customer service and communication, gaining a solid grounding in their career. This qualification underpins a range of work functions and job roles that can lead to a horticultural trade qualification. Fee-Free Training Students that meet the following criteria will be eligible to access fee-free training. You must: have completed Year 12 in Queensland and hold a Senior Statement issued by the Queensland Studies Authority (or the 'Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority' which replaced the Queensland Studies Authority from 1 July 2014) or equivalent certificate that confirms you have completed Year 12 in Queensland enrol and start training with approved training provider by the end of the calendar year following the completion of Year 12 live permanently in Queensland. Students who do not meet this criteria are welcome to study this course but will attract student fees. Application Mode On-campus Courses/Units Fifteen (15) units, two (2) core units and thirteen (13) elective units. Offerings Distance Education with optional workshops
This course is available by distance education; students will have the opportunity to attend workshops currently in Rockhampton or Gladstone. Workshops may be scheduled in other locations.
Work placement: This program does not include a Vocational Placement component but it is highly recommended that students seek out and participate in work placement or be employed in the related industry.
Delivery Method: This course is delivered using a blended model where students will progress through learning guides and assessment booklets. Students in the Rockhampton and Gladstone region will have the opportunity to attend workshops. Workshops may be scheduled in other locations.
TimingEnrolments are taken throughout the year on a continuous basis.

CQUniversity Rockhampton City - Pre-employmentThis course is available at the CQUniversity Rockhampton City Campus.
Work placement: This program does not include a Vocational Placement component but it is highly recommended that students arrange their own work placement or be employed in the related industry.
2016 Classes commence Monday 8 February 2016. First day please meet outside the Library. Students are expected to attend one day per week: Monday 8am to 4pm for 16 weeks. Classes conclude Monday 20 June 2016 (including 2 weeks break).
Next intake for this course will be in 2017. Further details to come.
CQUniversity Gladstone City VET in SCHOOLS (VETiS)This course is available as part of the VET in Schools Program at the CQUniversity Gladstone City campus.
Work placement: This program does not include a Vocational Placement component but it is highly recommended that students participate in work experience in conjunction with their school arrangements.

TraineeshipThis course is available for employers offering traineeships. This course is available by distance with blended delivery; students will have the opportunity to attend workshops currently in Rockhampton or Gladstone. Workshops may be scheduled in other locations.
A trainee is a person employed under a training contract. Traineeships provide a combination of employment and structured learning.
A trainee is contracted to an employer for a nominal period of time, enabling them to successfully gain competence in a vocational area as a trainee.
