To practice newly acquired skills under the supervision of the trainer. Suitable for: This course is strongly suggested for any company where People Handling is a large portion of the employees duties, for example, healthcare, childcare, and other related fields.

About this course

* No formal qualification needed, but a reasonable level of learning abilities will be beneficial.
* Candidates should be able to participate in practical sessions.
* All candidates must come wearing suitable attire for the day. Footwear must be comfortable and enclose the foot entirely, and candidates should be prepared to engage in at least a small amount of practical work. Candidates who come unsuitably dressed may be removed by the trainer.

Gareth has had many years of experience in the Medical Sector and Health & Safety Industry, working many years ago as Emergency Rescue in many Coalmines around Wales. He moved on to train First Aid, before starting his own company in 1992. We have evolved ever since, also transporting patients and training other Health & Safety courses. His knowledge and experience is a boon to the company, and feedback from his students always reflects upon his informal and friendly approach to training. He continues as Director of the company today, and still trains whenever he has the opportunity.

Ria started her working career with Powys County Council Social Care, providing personal care and assistance for elderly persons in the community. She joined AWAS in 2008, deciding that she would like to pursue a career in Manual Handling Training. Following her training with Edge Services, Ria has gone on to train many staff in Nursing Homes, Industrial Sites and Office workers. She is well-versed in both Manual Handling and First Aid skills, and continues to develop her skills with the company today.

Course programme

This course is recognized by bodies such as the Care Standards Inspectorate of Wales (CSIW) and is currently being delivered to many different kinds of organizations. We strongly suggest that you refresh your knowledge regularly, to ensure that you have a good opportunity to practice and recall procedures.

The passport scheme contains six modules, not all of which need to be covered. You choose the modules which best suit the kind of work undertaken by your employees.

Course Content:

- Legislation, Injuries and Basic Principles
- Inanimate Load Handling
- Sitting, Standing & Walking
- Bed Mobility
- Lateral Transfers
- Hoists & Slings

Certification

* All Wales Manual Handling Passport.
* Re-Qualification within the three-year period would require the candidates to undergo six contact hours. Outside of this period, candidates will need to undergo the full twelve hours again.
* Candidates will be continually assessed by their Training Facilitator.
