London Met invests in you: from our purpose-built newsroom to our state-of-the-art superlab, we aim to create a stimulating and unique learning environment for our students. Our courses have received top marks from the UK's Quality Assurance Agency and many are accredited by a wide range of professional bodies. Our lecturers are leaders in their field: in the latest Research Assessment Exercise, over two-thirds of the University’s research output was judged to be world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised.
We go the extra mile with our investment. We do this through our five-star promise, our pledge to connect our students with opportunities to boost their career skills. We put employability at the heart of our curriculum through helping you find placements, work experience and voluntary opportunities across a wide variety of organisations.
Course structureThese AMUSF (The Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers) professional qualification programme accredited courses are designed to give students an excellent grounding in the skills, techniques and materials of the traditional and contemporary upholsterer, both practical and in business, preparing students for employment or self-employment within the furniture industry.
The AMUSF course follows a progressive three stage programme:- Stage one: Craft Certificate - 210 hours
- Stage two: Intermediate Craft Certificate - 210 hours
- Stage three: Diploma - 210 hours
Students may choose to study on a 2-day, 1-day or an evening.
The programme progresses through three stages, each stage taking 210hrs, leading to a Diploma in stage 3 (a pass will be required at each stage before a student can progress to the next stage). These are practical courses therefore require a degree of manual dexterity.
There is no obligation to complete all three stages but a pass is required at each stage in order to progress.
Working through each stage you will advance the skills already learnt whilst being introduced to new materials and techniques. The course is heavily practical in nature, concentrating on learning through making with opportunities for group discussion as well as lectures and visits by industry experts.
