The figure of the anatomist is someone who works in the field of anatomy, a branch of biology that studies the structure of living organisms. This discipline owes its name to the main method of investigation, dissection, which has remained of fundamental importance even in modern times, although integrated by other modern and perfected methods of investigation. The "division by cutting" is one of the means of study of this science, which in a more exact way could be called sectoral anatomy, which is the branch of macroscopic anatomy (called in English "Gross Anatomy") that makes use of the dissection method of the corpse or parts of it, fresh or suitably prepared. Despite the birth of new conservation techniques, such as plastination, and three-dimensional virtual technologies, dissection remains the method of choice for the study of the anatomical discipline. Anatomy is divided into animal (zootomy) and plant (phytotomy) anatomy. The study of the relationships between different beings or organs of different beings is called comparative anatomy; when it is limited to a single animal species, it is called special anatomy. The first representative of special anatomy is human anatomy; this can be approached from different points of view. From the medical point of view it consists in the knowledge of the exact shape, position, size, variants, development and interrelation of the various parts of the human body in health, and this study is given the terms descriptive or topographical human anatomy. An accurate knowledge of all anatomical details takes years of observation and is possessed only by a few doctors who dedicate their lives to research in this area. The human body is so complex that only a small number of human anatomists (also called anatomists) master all its details: many specialize only in certain parts, such as the brain, bowels, etc., maintaining a good general knowledge of the human body. rest of the body.
