Content
The AS/A2 Level History course aims to generate enthusiasm and interest in the study of history. Students will learn about significant events, individuals and issues in British and American history, and develop an understanding of the causes and consequences of past events and how these relate to current issues. The new specification is designed to study history thematically; therefore, each module will cover a specific topic over a period of time. The course also aims to equip the student with the skills of evaluation and analysis, which will be achieved by looking at different interpretations of historical issues and the effects of change on people. Throughout the course, students will improve their knowledge of the past and be able to communicate this knowledge effectively.

AS Level Units:
Unit 1:

Pursuing Life and Liberty: Equality in the USA - 1945-1968

Politics, Presidency and Society in the USA - 1968-2001

Unit 2:

The experience of warfare in Britain 1854-1929

A2 Level Units:
Unit 3:

The United States: Boom, Bust and Recovery - 1917-1954

Unit 4:

Coursework: 20th Century International relations - 1879 - 1980

Assessment There is no coursework in the A level History course. The course concludes with three examinations. Progression A level History is a recognized qualification for many university courses as well as employment. AS History can lead to an A Level in History for candidates who take the A2 units.
