Introduction to course
Studying A Level law at Sir George Monoux Colleges encourages a broad view of the English Legal System. This ranges from the importance of lay people within the law to question such as, what is the difference between murder and manslaughter. The subject is delivered imaginatively by an enthusiastic team.

Course Details
In the first year students will study the role of Parliament in relation to domestic law making, how judges make law by way of Statutory Interpretation and Judicial Precedent. Students will also study the Legal Profession (i.e barristers, solicitors and legal excutives), Alternative methods of resolving a dispute and the Judiciary. This is all dealt with in the first unit. The second unit in the first year looks at an introduction to criminal law and an introduction to the law of tort (i.e. civil law). The second year of the course looks at the law relating to murder and manslaughter. Students will also study offences against property such as theft, robbery, burglary and criminal damage.

Where the course lead
The presumption that universities do not like students to study A Level Law is a myth. Many ex-law students have found that A Level Law has helped them immensely whilst studying the subject at degree level. For students thinking of a career in Law, it is an ideal opportunity to discover whether it is to your liking before enrolling on a degree course. It is also a useful course for a wide range of subjects at university including Social Sciences, Politics, Business and Management

Law is 100% exam based, there is no coursework requirement for this course.
