Ideal if you have a keen interest in working with animals. You'll need a GCSE at grade C or above in English, mathematics and/or science, or an equivalent qualification. You'll learn about animal health and welfare, an introduction to animal behaviour and handling, animal housing and feeding, an introduction to animal biology, about farm livestock and work-related experience in the land-based sector. Expect to study through theory and practical work spending some time at college and in a work experience placement of your choice. You'll love the opportunity to go on field trips to local zoos, wildlife parks and animal sanctuaries. You'll go onto work in animal management or progress to further study on our Animal Management City & Guilds Subsidiary or Extended Diploma or progress to an animal care apprenticeship.

Course programme
You will need a grade C in Maths or English, or equivalent, and you will be required to attend an interview where you will be asked to show commitment to working with animals, plus provide a reference from your school tutor or other professional person. Students who have undertaken a Level One course in Animal Care may apply.
This course will provide you with the basic knowledge and experience of working with and caring for a range of animals with which you will have practical experience at our Animal Units on each Duchy College site. You will study through theory and practical work spending some time at College and in a work experience placement of your choice.
