This course is ideal if you are new to animal care or have some basic knowledge. You will develop your skills and knowledge of a large variety of animals through studying a range of subjects, all taught using our new animal care facilities. This course will allow you to start working in a pet shop, animal shelter or kennel or will prepare you for further training at level 3. Studying at our Brinsbury campus offers you the opportunity to learn in a stunning, rural environment.

What you need to know
How will I study?

If you are a full time student aged 16-18 you will follow a study programme which will consist of your main course, enterprise and enrichment activities, English and maths, as well as work experience. This level 2 course consists of 8 core modules . Modules include subjects of animal health and welfare, animal feeding and accommodation, behaviour and handling, care of exotics, british wildlife, animal biology, animal breeds & grooming and work experience. . If you have a GCSE grade D in either English or maths you may be given the opportunity to undertake a resit (after sitting an initial assessment), otherwise you will stufy functional skills in these subjects.
How will I be taught?

Most lessons are 90 minutes long to allow for deep learning to take place. Lessons range from theory based sessions held in well equipped classrooms to practical lessons in and around the animal centre.
How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods vary between the differing modules, there is a external set test in the Spring for 4 modules. The other modules are assessed through externally set assessment, which are internally marked.
