The Animal Care Technical Certificate Level 2 is run in partnership with West Midland Safari Park (WMSP), teaching takes place primarily at WMSP with some teaching taking place at the nearby Kidderminster Academy. The course is designed to develop your skills and knowledge to enable you to recognise the signs of health, welfare and feeding and apply these in practical situations. You will also focus on the care of exotic animals, exploring sourcing and transporting the different species along with preparing and maintaining appropriate accommodation. Throughout the course you will work with a number of different species of animals including, ferrets, skunks, reptiles and tenrecs.
You’ll get an introduction to important topics in animal care – you might choose things like feeding, handling and grooming animals, looking after their accommodation and understanding their health and welfare. You will also cover the science behind animal behaviour, do work experience and gain practical skills.

Course programme
Entry Requirements
You will need 4 GCSE's at grade D or above including maths and English or a Level 1 related subject e.g. Land-based studies. A keen interest in the care of animals is essential.
Delivery and Assessment
You will be assessed through coursework including assignments, projects, case studies, presentations and tests.
Progression
After this course you may choose to continue your studies with the Level 3 Diploma in Animal Care or enter employment in a pet shop or veterinary practice.
