About the course If your aim is for a career looking after animals, this course provides the ideal route to a degree, or direct entry to jobs in animal care. With its unique mix of practical, scientific, technical and business studies, it gives you a thorough grounding in the principles of animal management. You will study via a mix of class-based sessions, visits and field trips, and be given help to arrange work placements to help you put your learning into practice. Visiting experts help to keep you up to date with developments in best practice.

About this course
A foundation degree will be of particular interest if you have completed a Modern Apprenticeship, vocational A levels, BTEC National or equivalent. Foundation degrees are also particularly suitable if you want to qualify while working. / entry As a guideline, a typical offer would require you to obtain a UCAS tariff score of between points, based on your level 3 studies. Many students studying for foundation degrees come to us through work-based routes so you can apply for a foundation degree even if you don't have traditional academic qualifications. .

- Learn in a mix of classroom, laboratory, IT laboratory and field-based sessions, in groups and individually, with opportunities for supported self-study
- Study a full range of practical, scientific, technical and business principles of animal management to give you a solid foundation on which to build your knowledge and experience
- Develop your understanding of how theoretical principles are applied, through visits by expert guest speakers and field trips where you can observe and reflect on practice
- Gain important practical experience through work placements, which we will help you find
- Benefit from a course that gives you access to further study (eg our top-up BSc in Animal Science) and/or careers in animal care settings including: pet shops and superstores; wildlife parks and zoos; kennels and catteries; farm and large animal environments; with animal welfare charities in veterinary hospitals and animal rehabilitation units or in animal health and nutrition research centres. There are also opportunities to work in local government for councils and with a range of other agencies/bodies and commercial sector employers
