You will learn the skills you need to enter competitive areas such as zoo keeping or to specialise further on a related top up degree. This is a higher education university level course, equivalent to the first year of a degree, that will extend your knowledge and opportunities.

What you need to know
How will I study?

This challenging course aims to produce students who will quickly aspire to managerial positions within the animal management industry. Modules studied include animal health and welfare, animal husbandry, anatomy and physiology, business environment and a research project. Year 1 students complete 8 units totalling 125 credits and achieve an Edexcel BTEC Level 4, example modules are as follows: Business Environment | Animal Husbandry Management | Animal Health and Welfare | Animal Nutrition | Research Project | Horse Husbandry | Anatomy & Physiology | Production Animal Management.
How will I be taught?

You will be taught both in a classroom setting and in the animal centre. You will also be expected to undertake self-directed research. Learners will complete fieldwork and enjoy participating in a number of trips and visits. A specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the sector. You will be expected to develop the following skills during the programme of study: analyse and summarise information critically.
How will I be assessed?

Assessment is all coursework, e.g. reports, presentations, practical assessments, research projects. You will take responsibility for your own learning; recognize your own learning style and apply subject knowledge to address familiar and unfamiliar problems; conduct and report on investigations.
