Course programme
The Course
Rapid developments in animal science have far reaching implications for the animal production industry. In the early part of the course you will cover modules such as Anatomy and Physiology, Biological Molecules and Genetics, Reproduction and Lactation and Farm Animal Nutrition. Later on, you’ll study aspects such as Farm Animal Welfare and Disease Control and Sustainable Animal Production. All students conduct a final year investigational project which gives you the opportunity to conduct research into an area of your interest.
The Placement
An important part of the course is the year-long paid work placement, when you will have the opportunity to put theory into practice. In the past, students have worked for ancillary industries such as animal feed manufacturers, research organisations, quality assurance companies, and animal health companies, as well as livestock enterprises. This period is arranged and supervised by Harper Adams and we will help you to find a placement that suits your career aspirations. The skills, contacts, confidence and knowledge students develop during placement year are highly valued by employers, as our excellent graduate employment record shows.
The Future
As a graduate of this course you will find yourself very well equipped for a career in several industries including animal nutrition, animal health, advisory roles (e.g. Axient, ADAS) and technical sales. Alternatively, you may consider becoming an enterprise manager/trainee manager. The course content will also provide you with the skills required to undertake postgraduate studies.
