The HNC/HND in Applied Biology develops a wide range of skills, knowledge and understanding needed to succeed in employment in biologically based industries. The course gives students the opportunity to take advantage of excellent science facilities situated in a purpose built environment. Students benefit from a large amount of tutor led class time (up to 14 hours a week) from our professional, friendly, and approachable staff.

What you need to know
How will I study?

The Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND in Applied Biology provides opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. Full-time learners have the opportunity to do this through formal work placements or part-time employment experience. The Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Applied Biology is a qualification with a minimum of 240 credits of which 95 credits are mandatory core. The Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND programme must contain a minimum of 125 credits at level 5. Details of units included on the Chichester College HND Applied Biology programme are available on request. All Chichester College modules map directly to Edexcel unit, there are no locally devised units.
How will I be taught?

Group & individual work, lectures, problems and examples, project work, practical classes, self study, study trips and guest speakers. Students joining the HNC/HND in Applied Biology are provided with a Course Handbook (each year) detailing the course structure, key course dates and what is expected of students. It is the intention that students can confidently rely on their course handbook for semester dates, module delivery dates, timetabling information and assignment hand-in dates.
How will I be assessed?

Student assessment will involve a variety of assessment methods, designed to assess student understanding of the topic content in each unit. Assessments will be graded with Pass, Merit or Distinction outcomes. HND Exam Boards meet at the end of the course to confirm all awarded grades.
