Building upon its impressive knowledge base and unrivalled network of industry contacts, the RAU has developed a degree which produces graduates with the skills and aptitude to meet the demands of the equine and equestrian world in the years ahead.
This course provides you with a grounding in the scientific and business skills essential to the current equine industry. You’ll develop an understanding of recent developments in equine research which will help you to respond to the challenges facing traditional equine businesses.
Equine students frequently publish material from their dissertation research in academic journals, and present findings at national and international conferences.

About this course
This course will provide you with a grounding in the scientific and business skills essential to the current equine industry.
- A Level: CCC – min.96 UCAS Tariff points (to include at least two A Level passes – Desirable to have one science subject. For Science subject: Pass in practical element is not required.)
- BTEC: MMM
- GCSE: (Minimum five GCSEs) - English and Mathematics at Grade C / 4 or higher are required.
- International Baccalaureate: 26 points, desirable to include one science or technology subject at higher level.
- Access to HE: 45 credits at level 3, of which 15 must be awarded at Distinction.
- A period of practical experience is also highly recommended.

Course programme
The course will be delivered through a series of lectures, tutorials, case studies, directed reading, laboratory practical exercises, demonstrations and visits.
Modules are assessed through a range of methods, including essays, group work tasks and individual presentations. There are timed, unseen examinations at the end of each year.
The Research Project (dissertation) is an integral part of the course, the successful completion of which leads to the BSc (Hons) classification. It provides essential experience in the design and execution of a research project focussing on either science or business subject matter, with a view to publication of any significant findings.
You’ll complete a 20-week work placement in the second year of the course, which enhances and develops key transferable skills. In conjunction with University staff, students are encouraged to organise placements that extend their current skill set, and align with career goals. Overall, this is an excellent opportunity to develop a range of links within the growing equine industry.

Full-time fees - £10,000 per year
