Course description: All training on this course is delivered either in the workplace or at college, on a day release basis.
This apprenticeship framework is designed for people working in roles such as administration executive/officer, office manager, administration team leader, personal assistant or business development executive.
This course develops the skills needed to be an effective administrator within a business environment. Tasks undertaken by apprentices will vary depending on the level and sector in which they are employed. Tasks may include producing documents, preparing notes, organising and co-ordinating events and meetings, developing and delivering presentations, providing reception services, using office equipment, setting up and maintaining filing systems, using a variety of software packages, updating information and managing projects. At more advanced levels, tasks may also include overseeing operational activities, implementing change within organisations, managing teams, monitoring risk and agreeing budgets.
In this course, learning is based around providing business support systems, processes and services that enable the organisation to achieve its objectives and continuously improve its performance for the customer.
Students will complete:
OCR Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Business and Administration (QCF)
EDI Level 4 Certificate in Principles of Business and Administration (QCF)
Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
Functional or Key Skills in Maths, English and Information and Communications Technology (unless exempt).
Students will complete a minimum of 550 guided learning hours, of which 30% (or 100 hours, whichever is greater) must be off-the-job during the first 12 months.
Additional measurable benefits include better team performance, productivity targets met or exceeded, quicker response time and reduced error rates.
Entry requirements: Applicants for the Higher Apprenticeship programme should ideally have completed an level 3 programme or have significant professional experience. Apprentices who took their GCSEs more than five years ago and did not gain a C grade or above may need to take a literacy and numeracy test. Applicants will also be invited to a pre-enrolment interview.
Apprenticeships are open to anyone over the age of 16, whether they have just left school or have been working for years. As an apprenticeship is a work based qualification, applicants should either have an employer who has agreed to support them, or be seeking an apprenticeship position through our vacancies list. Once you have secured a position with an employer your training can begin.
Learning outcome: Administrators need a broad range of skills to work efficiently and to help increase business productivity. Skills identified as essential by organisations include; office and administration skills, customer-handling skills, technical and practical skills, oral communication skills and IT skills.
Objective: Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed around the needs of employers, which lead to nationally recognised qualifications.
Assessment: Training and assessments are delivered in the workplace, except some of the content, which may be undertaken in college. Assessment is via a variety of methods, including case studies, assignments, practical assessments and projects.
Academic progression: Successful apprentices may progress to a Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management or to another higher education route.
Career progression: Career opportunities in higher level administration include operations director, business development manager, company secretary or one of many managerial roles within a variety of organisations.
Costs: Training on the Apprenticeships programme is currently funded for apprentices aged 16 - 18 years at the time of enrolment. An employer contribution is required for those aged either 19+ or who have a level 4 or higher qualification.
