This is a two year Engineering Apprenticeship programme for employed people aged 16+ who have recently started or are about to start working in an engineering environment and aim to achieve a recognised sector skills qualification. This programme is fully funded for 16-18 year olds, and partially funded for the 19+ age group.

Apprenticeships are available in:

• Engineering Technical Support
• Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering
• Fabrication and Welding
• Engineering Maintenance & Installation
• Electrical/Electronic Engineering


THE APPRENTICESHIP FRAMEWORK

The framework is made up of the following components. In order to be successful you must complete and achieve all elements.

1. Main NVQ/developmental stage training - the qualification is comprised of units, usually 3 mandatory units and a choice of pathway units at Level 2.
2. Technical Diploma - Level 2 EAL Diploma in Engineering and Technology - choice of pathways.
3. Functional Skills - Engineering frameworks include 3 Functional Skills as follows:  
    a. Level 1 Maths, English and IT
4. Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR).
5. Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

You will require: overalls, safety boots, ring binder/subject dividers, pens, drawing instruments, Zeus book and a scientific calculator.

Course programme

Progression to the Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering.

All applicants wishing to enrol will need to meet with a member of staff beforehand. You must also be employed by a company willing to support you. You will need to be aged between 16 and over to be eligible for an Apprenticeship, have a good general education and 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 (A* - D).

Assessment on all apprenticeship programmes is by continuous assessment method for the NVQ parts of evidence which is a major part of the assessment procedure. You will be assigned an assessor by the college to help monitor and review your training progress at regular intervals, both at College and in your workplace.
