This Apprenticeship is a practical route into the environmental conservation industry. It covers a range of knowledge and skills designed around specific roles in the industry. It reflects the many roles that you may undertake when working in the countryside. These range from boundary management, habitat creation to interpretation of the countryside. The range of units allow the Qualification to match the actual work that you will be undertaking with your employer.

About this course

You will need to have two GCSEs at grade D in English and maths, or a relevant level 1 Qualification and be employed in the industry.

Course programme

What will I study on the course?

There are two pathways and around 75 different units that you and your employer would choose to best fit your working situation. This ensures that you are able to practice the skills that you learn in college to a high standard and that you have both the knowledge and competence to practice these in the workplace. Units include felling, hedge maintenance, fencing, creation of wetlands and woodlands, drystone walling, recycling and monitoring wildlife population.

Additional information

The course consists of core and optional units which will be tailored towards the industry sector in which you work. You will attend college and spend time working within a countryside related environment in order to build a portfolio of work, which will normally take between 12 and 18 months to complete.
