The new Hair Professional Standard Level 2 has been developed based on learner and employer needs and has been designed by employers for learners wishing to gain an apprenticeship within the Hair Professional arena.
Apprentices work towards achieving a Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals and will gain knowledge and skills in the following topics:
• Professionalism & Values
• Behaviours & Communication
• Safe Working Practices
• Client Consultation
As well as industry-specific hairdressing skills & knowledge:
• Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp
• Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
• Style and finish hair
• Colour and lighten hair
• Plaiting and twisting
• Hair extension services
Apprentices will learn about the importance of behaviours and attitudes expected of hairdressers towards clients and colleagues and be able to demonstrate them.
This course is available at both the Cambridge and Huntingdon campuses.

Suitable Job Roles - trainee hairdresser with progression opportunities from junior level to senior hairdresser/barber, and then opening up opportunities as salon manager or salon owner.
This Level 2 qualification is for people who wish to start a career in Hairdressing.
To enrol, you MUST be employed over 30 hours per week in a Barbers, to start an Apprenticeship, please contact us should you need help in finding suitable employment.
Apprentices are paid a wage by the employer. Your employer is required to give you a contract of employment, which will include holiday entitlement and all other benefits. Your clientele should provide you with the opportunities for the Level 2 Barbering services and skills.
Entry onto the L2 Apprenticeship Framework or standard requires 2 x D Grades/2 x Grade 3 or above in Maths and English
We currently offer pre apprenticeship courses for applicants, in Maths and English, to support learners wishing improve their grades to the entry criteria. Learners should have secured employment.
All applicants will be interviewed- this includes maths and English skills scan, a trade test and a formal interview
We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.
There are three stages:
1. On-programme stage - observations and online knowledge exams
2. Gateway stage - successful completion of qualification units, values and behaviours, functional skills and training hours
3. End-point assessment. External examiner observation - practical assessment and oral questioning/professional discussion
This qualification is delivered in the workplace with College day release to develop the knowledge-based elements of the Apprenticeship and Functional Skills.
