Course programme

Course Description
These courses cover reading, writing, listening and speaking in the language. Grammar is taught in an integrated way. The emphasis is on the communicative method of learning. Formal instruction, pair/group work, listening, reading and comprehension exercises, role plays, games, discussions and tutorials are all part of the course. Use is also made of video, satellite broadcasts and audio tapes.
The exam board is ABC.

What background and qualifications do you need to join?
For beginners who wish to learn standard Arabic and have done ABC Entry Level or 60 hours of an equivalent course and are interested in gaining a qualification.

What does the course lead to?
Successful completion of an ABC Entry Level 2 can lead to progression onto ABC higher courses as appropriate. Your tutor will help you identify a suitable progression route.

What are the facilities and equipment like?
Students will be able to use our Skills Centres, with plenty of visual research material, including books, slides, journals, CD ROMS and Internet access.

How much should I study outside class?
A minimum of three hours a week for the first part of the course, study time may be increased in the second part according to the students` needs.

How is the course assessed?
Mock assessments in all the four skills are held throughout the course in preparation for the final ones.

Are any course materials online?
Some course material will be taken from the relevant websites

What books and equipment do I need?
Students should not purchase a book until the language test/interview before the start of the course. After the interview the tutor will advise the students on which book and material to get.


What else do I need to buy? / What extra costs are there?
Students will be asked to buy an Arabic Text book with the accompanying CD
