This is a two years course leading to an A level in Arabic Language from EDEXCEL. The full A level is made up of the AS unit plus one more unit at an higher level. Students who successfully finish their AS may continue to do the A level. A native speaker who has a good standard of reading and writing with reasonable knowledge of English may also take it.

What are the main features of this course?
This is a two years course leading to an A level in Arabic Language from EDEXCEL.
The full A level is made up of the AS unit plus one more unit at an higher level. It focuses on knowledge and understanding of the culture of the Arab countries, the topics will cover environment and citizenship and the International context.

How is the course assessed?
The AS unit is 50% of the A level. It consists of 3 sections testing reading and writing. The second unit also consists of 3 sections; Section 1 the candidate will be required to read a text in Arabic then answer questions in Arabic. There is also a piece of contemporary text to be translated from English to Arabic. Section 2 There will be a choice of two questions on each topic and text. Section 3 Discursive essay: one question to answered from a choice of four.

Where can I go next?
On completing this course successfully, the student can go on to study a degree in Arabic, Islamic studies, Oriental studies, Languages, Education. In a combination, the A level Arabic can get you to university to study any subject. There is also a chance to work with local communities. Employment in Arab oil countries can be easier with an A level Arabic. The chance of obtaining a place in a university in Arab countries to study Arabic or Islamic studies will be improved.
