This course is for you if you want to gain the skills employers are looking for in the arboricultural industry. You will get practical skills and in-depth knowledge of trees, soils, felling operations and visual tree inspections. You will study a range of topics which will equip you to go into employment or to progress onto a Level 3 (advanced) diploma course. This course provides a broad grounding in arboriculture with a wide range of skills and background knowledge and an emphasis on practical knowledge. It is delivered at our campus within Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Edgbaston.
You will learn a wide range of technical skills, working with specialised and highly experienced staff.

• Identify, select and plant trees
• Visual tree inspections

Course programme

Entry Requirements

To study a Level 2 Vocational qualification we ask that you have achieved a minimum of 4 Grade D's or above at GCSE which may include Maths and/or English. A keen interest in trees/plants and the outdoors is essential.

Delivery and Assessment

Assessment for the level 2 Diploma in arboriculture is achieved by observation of practical tasks and a range of continuous assessment including some of the following; reports, presentations and written assignments, leaflets, posters and tree surveys. At this level you will need to carry out independent research for your written assignments.

Progression

After completing this course you may progress on to a level 3 in Forestry and Arboriculture. Alternatively you may seek employment in the arboriculture industry including; tree surgeons, parks and gardens maintenance, nursery, arboretum, landscape and garden design and self-employment.
