Course programme

At Raworth we are passionate about aromatherapy and our comprehensive, academically rigorous training reflects this passion. Raworth continues to be at the forefront of accredited aromatherapy training and is committed to teaching to the highest standards of excellence. All course material is updated regularly, to reflect current aromatherapy thinking and research.

During the course you will gain a detailed knowledge of 60 essential oils; their chemistry, therapeutic properties, actions and safety issues. This learning is reinforced with the study of essential oil science, basic botany, toxicology, extraction methods, quality issues and other important aromatherapy topics. Throughout the course your knowledge will be extended and deepened through studies in blending, case study work, selecting essential oils for common health conditions and subject specialist days. In addition our student clinics provide practical “real life” experience of applying knowledge and skills in a supportive atmosphere.

Our teaching methods combine traditional lecture style teaching with active, participatory learning. You will study essential oils by exploring their scent, as well as through detailed study of each oil’s chemistry and therapeutic applications. A typical lesson might involve discussions, small group work, blending sessions and in-depth consideration of “real life” client scenarios. Throughout the course we teach contraindications and safe practice guidelines which challenge the myths of aromatherapy. We also include an introduction to research methods for complementary thapists and we look at the increasing importance of evidence-based theory and practice for professional aromatherapists.

The course is fully accredited by the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists; once qualified, students are entitled to join the IFPA.
