Course programme
This course will examine the history of textile arts, including the changing impact of textile art and design on our daily lives, and the evolution of textile industries in our society. You'll explore four important time periods in textile history, from antiquity to modern day.
Topics include:
- The impact of technology, from the cultivation of plant and animal fibres to dye processes and printing
- The varying values of fibres over time, from wool and silk to synthetics
- The international trade of textiles, and its specific effects on life and industry in Nova Scotia
Through your assignments, you'll focus on different fibres and different eras. You'll expand your understanding of textile history through course material, a site visit, and a research project.
