What qualifications will I get?BTEC 90 Credit Diploma (Yr 1)
BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design (3D Design) (Yr 2)
All non A Level qualifications including BTECs will now have some part of the course assessed externally (up to a maximum of 40% of the units). This still means that the majority of a BTEC course is assessed as normal as a student progresses through the two years by the teachers at the College through the coursework but there will be some units that have external assessments. The external assessments can take many forms: some might be practical projects such as responding to a particular brief or working on a project in controlled conditions, as well as traditional written or online examinations. Examples of all of the different types of assessment will be created in time to allow all students to practice and prepare for the real thing.
What is the entry process? Please fill out an application form, either paper or online, this will be responded to with a letter of acknowledgement, then an appointment for an informal interview to discuss the course content and your professional design career aspirations.
What are the entry requirements?Minimum qualifications: Full level 2
Minimum of four GCSE passes at grade C or above to include English, Maths and a relevant arts based subject. Alternatively a BTEC Level 2 qualification in a related subject at Distinction is acceptable.
What else do I need to know? The work is assignment-based (continual assessment) and involves research, problem solving, practical development, production and evaluation. The course is largely based on individual study, although some assignments are team or group based. Year 1 allows the exploration of several design areas before specialising in year 2.
A studio fee which is £85 per year will be charged.
We make every effort to ensure this course information is accurate. However, we reserve the right to make alterations. Fees may be indicative at the time of publishing.
The Extended Diploma is the equivalent of three A levels and as such equates directly to the equivalent UCAS points for degree course applications. Your final grade would range from PPP (Pass, Pass, Pass) to D*D*D* (Distinction*, Distinction*, Distinction*), again equal to three A Levels at grade C to A*
English and Maths
English and maths qualifications are vitally important for future employers and universities, so the government has made it a priority for students to improve these skills.
Entry Level / Level 1 and Level 2: We’re here to help you on your journey, so if you do not achieve grade A*-C in GCSE English and/or maths, then you will study English and/or maths as part of your college course.
Students who achieve a D grade will be placed on the relevant GCSE programme, while students who achieve an E or below will be assessed to ensure they are placed on the right study programme for their ability.
Level 3 programmes: You will need to meet the course entry requirements specified on the course information above. For the majority of our Level 3 courses, students will need grade A*-C in GCSE English and maths. If this is not specified in the course entry requirement, then you may be able to study English and/or maths as part of your college course.
