What will I study?

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
Students will be required to visit galleries/museums/art and design work locations as part of their programme. This may be local, for example Goodwood Sculpture Park or in London, such as Tate Modern. Also there is a voluntary overseas visit each year; previous trips have included New York City, Chicago, Paris and Barcelona.

How will I be assessed?
The emphasis is on internally set coursework, with only two units being externally set. Evidence will consist of practical 2D and 3D work, visual and written critical research, extended essays and oral presentations. At the beginning of May your work will need to internally assessed and then by end of May/beginning of June externally moderated, with the students work being viewed holistically. The final grade awarded is subject to a final external moderation at the end of each year.

What can I do afterwards?
The course offers a choice of progression routes, including the possibility of enrolling onto an intensive one year Art and Design Foundation in preparation for Degree/HND/Foundation Degree courses. Students have carried on their studies at Brighton, Eastbourne, London College of Fashion and Central St. Martins of London Art and Design Foundation courses. It is possible to secure direct entry onto University, with students being accepted onto a wide range of Higher Education courses.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Students need to match their commitment with a substantial investment in equipment and materials. There are two compulsory requirements. You must have an A1 portfolio which will accept A1 plastic sleeves. Students will also be required to work in A4 or A3 sketchbooks in various media. Student also must have access to a 35mm film camera. As a guide the budget for each term is £50.
