About this course
Entry requirements
To succeed on this course you need to be committed towards your study and focused upon your career choice. This route is designed for adult students (19+). Funding is not available for those aged 18 and under, and we would recommend that alternative vocational qualifications are considered which support progression on to further or higher education or employment.
You should have a level 2 qualification in English and a level 1 qualification in maths, however, in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to take the course without these qualifications.

Course programme
What you'll learn
You’ll learn drawing and colour theory, as well as a brief but comprehensive overview of art history. Alongside this, you’ll learn core techniques for higher education, such as the importance of academic referencing, experimentation, the development of ideas and analysis of your work. Through investigation, research, teamwork and confidence in your own abilities, you will end your year with an exhibition of your art.
You’ll get hands-on experience through a broad range of projects to develop a solid grounding in the key areas of art and design. The Access course is designed to ensure you achieve a maths and English qualification at the appropriate level for entry to higher education.
